Orissa to prepare Master plan on Road and Irrigation

Bhubaneswar,May 15(UNI) A master plan for providing connectivity to all villages,habitations and nearly 35 per cent irrigations to all the 314 blocks in Orissa will be prepared within a month.

A high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today decided that the master plan would also locate fund to complete the task within the next five years.

Briefing newspersons after the meeting Orissa Development Commissioner Ajit Kumar Tripathy said out of 314 blocks in the state only 115 blocks have the potential for providing 35 per cent irrigation facilities.

The government, he said would work out the strategies to provide 35 per cent irrigation in the rest161 blocks of which nearly 38 blocks have almost no irrigation potentiality. He said about Rs 900 crores would be required to complete the mission.

Mr Tripathy said nearly 8000 km road would be improved with the assistance of Rs 540 crore provided by the 12th Finance Commission during 2006-2010, while another 1000 km road would be taken up during the period with an outlay of Rs 1800 crore under the Bharat Nirman Yojana.
