Nettempadu project receives environmental clearance

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Environment&Forests has accorded environment clearance for the Rs 1,428 crore Jawahar Lift Irrigation Scheme at Nettempadu in Mahboobnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.

The project which seeks to lift 21.425 TMC of water from Krishna River from the foreshore of Jurala Project and will provide irrigation to about two lakh acres in Dharur and Gadwal mandals of drought-prone and backward district, the state's Special Representative said here.

The project will be completed in two phases, he said. In the first phase, the Guddemdoddi Balancing reservoir will be built and in the second, the Relampadu Balancing Reservoir will be constructed. It will also provide drinking water facility to 150 villages.

The project will affect 3173 families including submergence of 170 houses in Chinnanpally village. The total land requirement of the project is 11,487 hectares but since no forest land is involved in the project, no forest clearance will be required.

Public hearing for the project was held on March 14 this year.
