Mass sit-in protest call against killing of a girl
Imphal, May 15 (UNI) The working committee of APUNBA LUP (WCAL) has called upon the people of Manipur to stage sit-in-protest tomorrow against the killing of a 19-year-old-girl identified as Chuireiwon at Thoubal, Bishenpur district, allegedly by police on May 9 last.
Goverment officials here, however, said the girl was killed in an encounter. They said the body, which remained unclaimed at the morgue of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), will be disposed off.
The WCAL said that it would fight against all form of terrorism and threatened to start a mass movement on the issue. The WCAL had spearheaded the agitation in 2004 after the killing of TH Manorama allegedly by the Assam Rifles.
On May 9 last Chureiwon was and two others Ramananda and Lungreiwon were held by Bishenpur police following an alleged encounter with the militants.
Meanwhile, the Indigenous People's Society and Tangkhul Kataamnao Saklong have also supported the WCAL call for mass agitation against the government.
