Lack of funds delaying launch of Urdu channel

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) Lack of funds was the main reason for deferring the launch of the Doordarshan's Urdu Channel, the Government told the Lok Sabha today.

The channel could not be launched in January due to non-availability of the required budgetary allocation during the fiscal 2005-06, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parlaimentary Affairs P R Dasmunsi said in a written reply.

He said the budgetary allocation of Rs 40 crore has been made during the current financial year against the projected requirement of approximatley Rs 78.40 Crore.

The proposal has been taken up with the Planning Commission for 'in-principle' approval of the project, he said.
