GU Law faculty on hunger strike

Guwahati, May 15: The part-time teachers of Law College of Gauhati University (GU) today sat on a 10-hour hunger strike, demanding regularisation of their posts and enhanced salary.

Mrs Bordoloi, who participated in the strike, alleged that the Law College though it requires a teaching strength of 22 teachers, has five regular faculty, including the Principal.

As many as 15 teachers had been working as part-time faculty against a salary of Rs 4,000, she said.

Mrs Bordoloi further said repeated pleas by the part-time teachers for regularisation of their posts and increase in salary had fall on deaf ears.

The teachers toady also submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of the GU, in support of their demands, she added.
