Goa Govt orders magisterial probe into recent communal riots

Panaji, May 15 (UNI) Goa Government today ordered a magisterial inquiry into the recent communal riots in South Goa's Sanvordem-Curchorem area ''to ascertain facts in the entire episode and fix responsibility for lapses, if any''.

North Goa district collector was directed to conduct the inquiry in areas where several people were injured and their properties damaged. He has to submit his report to the government within a month.

Besides assessing the extent of property loss and injuries caused, the inquiry has to probe the sequence of events that led to the riots.

It has to suggest appropriate action against the guilty besides finding out lapses in discharges of duties by government officials, if any, and fixing the responsibility.

The terms of reference also include suggestion of remedial measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future.
