Ex-MP alleges threat from police

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, May 15 (UNI) Mr Drigpal Shah, former MP from Bastar, has alleged that he was facing threat to his life from the Special Police Officers posted at Kutru for anti-naxalite operations.

In a letter to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, the former Zamindar of Kutru said supporters of the anti-naxal movement 'Salwa Judum' had cleared the jungle near his residence at Kutru and his ancestral house was flattened to construct barracks.

Due to health problems, Mr Shah has been residing here for about a year.

Several thousand tribals were uprooted from their villages following the increased hostilities between the CPI (Maoist) naxalites and security forces in south Bastar and about 50,000 such people were given shelter in relief camps opened by the government.

Nearly 500 tribals were killed in the conflict in about a year.

Former Punjab DGP K P S Gill was recently appointed Security Adviser to the Chhattisgarh government to tackle the naxal menace.
