Council elections scheduled for June eight postponed
Mumbai, May 15 (UNI) Biennial elections to the Legislative Council for four seats scheduled for June eight have been postponed to June 24 even as notification was issued today for the biennial elections for eleven seats of Maharashtra Legislative Council(MLC) to be elected from the 288-member Legislative Assembly, scheduled on June 1.
The 11 members of the Legislative Council who are retiring on July 27 are Mr Vilas Avachat, Mr Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, Dr Deepak Sawant (Shiv Sena), Mr Ulhas Pawar, Mr Govindrao Adik, Mr Natikoddin S Khatib (Cong) Mr Shantaram Karmalkar, Mr Kanta Nalavade(BJP), Mr Vinayak Mete (NCP), Mr Jayant Patil (PWP) and Mr Dayanand Maske (RPI).
According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), no nominations were filed on the first day today. The last day of filing the nomination papers is May 22. The scrutiny of the minations will be held on May 23 and the last date of withdrawal is May 25.
The voting, if required, will be held on June 1.
Meanwhile,the biennial election to Mahrashtra Legislative Council to fill in four vacancies from the teachers and graduates constituencies scheduled for June 8 will now be held on June 24.
The seats falling vacant are Mumbai Teachers, Mumbai Graduates, Nashik Teachers and Konkan Graduates.
