City court sentences one to 7-year RI for rape
New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) A city court today sentenced a 30 year-old-man to seven years' imprisonment for raping his official colleague in Okhla Industrial Area in South-West Delhi two years ago.
Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) S P Garg held Kishan Poddar guilty of raping his colleague and sentenced to seven years' imprisonment.
The court further slapped a fine of Rs 500 on Kishan.
Kishan and the victim were working together in Okhla private factory as worker and checker respectively. On August 5, 2004, the victim had gone upstair to bring water. Kishan went there, raped her and fled from the spot. The charges were framed against Kishan on January 12. There were twelve prosecution witnesses in this case, according to the prosecution.
The judge observed in his order that, ''the offence was committed during the working hours and he deserves no leniency.'' Kishan was convicted under section 376 (Rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
