Child marriage shatters Mafia's blissful life
Bhilwara, May 15 (UNI): Nineteen-year-old Mafia Bano today stands at the crossroads of life as her long-forgotten marriage at the age of three is now creating hurdles in her second marriage, which was held with her and the groom's consent.
Mafia Bano's second marriage to Idris Mohammad on March 27 this year is on the verge of being broken as now Idris's family members and Muslim's Shariat law want that the issue of her marriage when she was just three, be sorted out first.
The Shariat law has nullified her second marriage and she is being ostracised socially. Mafia has returned to her father's house totally dejected. Mafia told UNI:''I don't even remember my first marriage. I was married as my other three sisters were being married at that time. I have never been to my in-laws. How can I go to that house where my elder sister Bashiran was beaten dead and thrown out of the house. We have filed a case against them in the court.'' Mafia Bano had been married to Idris on the wishes of both the families. However, the law and Idris family members want that Mafia divorce her first husband Feroze and then marry Idris again.
The issue has once again started a debate over the Shariat law. As it says that Mafia's second marriage is illegal and falls under the category of rape. The issue is further complicated as Mafia has got her second marriage registered in court.
However, educated and modern thinking Idris doesn't think much of Mafia's child marriage. Son of a chemist, Idris, however, respects the Shariat law but at the same time wants his wife back.
Idris says ''Mafia was just three when she got married. Neither could she read the kalma , so where is the question of getting (talaq) divorce?'' He is hopeful the matter will get sorted out after discussion.
This is Idris's second marriage too as he divorced Rehana whom he married in childhood.
However, 55 year old Maulvi Sarwar Meer Khan, who got Mafia married to Feroz on May 8, 1990 says her first marriage, performed as per the wishes of her father, is legal.
Mafia's first husband Feroze is getting married on June three but he is willing to take Mafia to his house.
However, Mafia'a father, Babu khan Visayati says Mafia's divorce issue was finalised 11 years ago when her elder sister was forced out of her in-law's house by Feroze's uncle with whom she tied the knot.
When Maulvi Mushtak Ali, who performed Mafia-Idris marriage on March 27 this year, came to know of her first marriage, he lodged a complaint of cheating with the police, who are currently investigating the matter.
