BHU medicos go on indefinite strike over OBC reservation

Varanasi, May 15 (UNI) Junior doctors at the Sir Sunder Lal Hospital (SSU) in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) this evening announced an indefinite strike from tomorrow on the OBC reservation issue.

SSU Resident Doctors Association (RDA) president Mahesh Kante told UNI that following the meeting between the agitating doctors and medical students, junior medicos had decided to change today's single-day 'token' strike into an indefinite strike.

''All junior doctors will go on indefinite strike from tomorrow paralysing total functioning of SSU, considered to be the health hub of east Uttar Pradesh,'' Dr Kante added.

All services in the hospital, including emergency services would come to a halt due to the strike.

At the meeting, it was also decided to proceed to New Delhi to join the striking of doctors there, if the government failed to reverse its proposed move of 27 per cent OBC reservation in higher education.
