Alonso to wow the crowds again in Seville

LONDON: After winning his home Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona at the weekend, Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso is preparing for an encore in Seville on Sunday.

The 24-year-old will drive the Renault R25 that took him to the title last year in a free public demonstration on the streets of the southern city, with up to half a million people expected to turn up.

''Barcelona was an unforgettable weekend for me, probably the best feeling I have had in an F1 car,'' he said in a team statement after winning at the Circuit de Catalunya.

''I am looking forward to seeing my people on Sunday and to saying thank you to them for their amazing support.'' Alonso has a 15-point lead over Ferrari's Michael Schumacher in the championship after six races. His win at the Circuit de Catalunya in front of a 130,000-strong crowd made him the first Spaniard to win his home race.
