Vaibhav, Chatra Bhuj claim gold

Pune, May 14: Strongly-built Vaibhav Patil of Satara totalled 4600 points while Chatra Bhuj Kadam of Amravati mustered 2759 points to capture golds in the demanding decathlon event for boys under-20 and under-16 categories respectively in the Maharashtra State Combined Events and the Junior Under-20 Federation Cup Athletic Championship which concluded at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City Mahalunge-Balewadi near here today.

Rupali Gutkule of Pune displayed remarkable grit to claim the gold in the pentathlon event for girls under 16. The Pune lass aggregated a tally of 1703 points to get the better of Sneha Nande, also of Pune, and Sayali Deshpande of Mumbai Suburban district.

Nande and Deshpande had to remain content with the silver and bronze medals respectively.

The junior Federation Cup saw Ramnaresh Yadav of Mumbai City district overcome a stiff resistence from Kuldip Bhonge of Pune and Ashwin Shetty of Amravati to claim the gold, winning the 200 meteres sprint for boys under-20 clocking 22.4 seconds.

Avinash Kumao of Pune overcame a strong field to win the demanding 3000-meter steeple chase event for boys under-20, breezing past the finish line in a time of 10 minutes and 01.2 seconds.

Bhaskar Nalawade and Abhijit Vite, both from Pune, bagged the silver and bronze respectively.

Maharashtra Amateur Athletic Association general secretary Pralhad Sawant said the Maharashtra squad for the National Combined Events Championship, to be held in Delhi, and Federation Cup National Junior Under-20 Athletic Championship, to be held in Chennai, in June will be selected based on the performance of the athletes in the Pune meet.

Hammer Throw: Dhananjay Pawar (Mum City) 1, Manohar Rakesh (Pune) 2.

Dist: 21.12 meters.

800-meter run: Hemant Patil (Pune) 1, Bheemsingh Wasave (Pune) 2, Vaibhav Kokil (Mum Sub) 3. Time: 2:03:5.

Girls Under-20: 3000 meters run: Reshma Dalvi (Pune) 1, Pooja Jat (Satara) 2, Ankita Salunke (Amravati) 3. Time: 11:41:7.

3-Km Walk: Deepali Udhale (Pune) 1, Shushma Sanke (Aur) 2. Time: 19:47:1.

Triple Jump: Hiral Hardia (Mum Sub) 1, Rupali Gutkule (Pune) 2, Pooja Rokade (Pune) 3.

Maharashtra Combined Event: Boys Under-14: Triathlon: Group A: Vanav Kale (Pune) 976 pts 1, Tushar Garje (Aur) 2.
