UPA will be under pressure, arithmetic helped DPA in TN: BJP
Chennai, May 14 (UNI)Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu today claimed that the UPA government at the Centre would be more vulnerable and come under presssure from the Left Parties following their impressive win in the West Bengal and Kerala assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Naidu, who observed that electoral arthithmetic, Ms Jayalalithaa's flip- flop on some harsh measures she had taken and lack of a proper alliance front for AIADMK led to DMK led DPA's win, said the Left would place more road blocks to the UPA government.
He also claimed that the implementation of economic reforms will also be affected.
Congratulating Mr Karunanidhi for his victory on behalf of the BJP, Mr Naidu said despite his vast political experience and acumen, it would not be easy for Mr Karunanidhi to implement the promises he had made in the manifesto.
''However, we wish that he is able to fulfil this difficult task.
The DMK's influence with the Centre will enable it. It is not impossible to implement the promises. But it will be difficult'', he observed.
Mr Naidu said the good showing of actor Vijayakanth's new party DMDK showed that people are looking for an alterntive.
He claimed that it was strange that the Congress which was sharing power at the Centre with the DMK, did not want to join the government in Tamil Nadu and preferred to offer outside support.
''May be they have their own reasons'', he quipped.
Mr Naidu also condemned the Doda massacre in Jammu and Kashmir and the attack on BJP's protest rally.
''We are planning nation-wide protests against it'', Mr Naidu said.
Mr Naidu said by November end all state units of the BJP would have new Presidents including those in the South. ''But this has nothing to do with the party's performance in the South in the assembly polls'', he asserted.
