Two arrested for selling fake 'nagmani'

Akola, May 14 (UNI) Two persons have been arrested for cheating people by selling fake 'nagmani' worth Rs one lakh and their two accomplices are absconding, police said.

The accused, identified as Amaresh Kapur Pawar (27) and Dhirajlal Hiralal Pawar (25), were arrested from a house at Madapuri village in Khandesh area in Jalgaon on May 12. The Buldhana police recovered Rs 1.30 lakh in cash and electrical instruments including a battery from their house.

The police said, the accused would make the gem, 'nagmani' by throwing light from electrical wires buried under the earth on a glass ball, called mani, thus taking people for a ride.

Their accomplice Sujat Ludhal Pawar, the up-sarpanch of the village and Nishan Janpat Pawar are, however, absconding.

An offence of cheating has been registered u/s 420 of the IPC against the accused, police said.
