Trial on perjury charges against Zahira on May 15
Mumbai, May 14: Trial in the perjury case against Zahira Sheikh, the prime witness in the Best Bakery case, and her three family members will likely to begin from tomorrow in the session court at Mazgaon, southcentral Mumbai.
The trial will commence before Additional Session Court Judge Abhay Thipsay, who had served perjury notices to Zahira and her family members on February 24, this year for giving misleading evidences during the re-trial in the Best Bakery case here.
The perjury notice was issued under section 344 of CrPC to Zahira, her mother Sahrunissan, sister Sahirabanu and brother Nassibullah, while the court sentenced nine accused to life imprisonment and acquitted eight out of the total of 17, who were re-arrested after acquitted them by fast track court of Vadodara due to lack of evidence. Four others were still absconding.
Zahira, meanwhile, is serving one year's imprisonment at the Byculla jail here for contempt of court, awarded by the Supreme Court on March eight.
