State Election Commissioners meet in Srinagar from tomorrow

Srinagar, May 14 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen (retd) S K Sinha will inaugurate the two-day fifth All India State Election Commissioners Conference here tomorrow.

This is the first time that such a conference was being held in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) B B Tandon, two Election Commissioners and the State Election Commissioners of the country are expected to attend the conference, being held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) here.

Since polls to the Panchayats were due in near future, creating awareness about the importance of elections to the local bodies and Panchayats was extremely important, an official statement here said.

The entire process of elections to Panchayats and local bodies in multiple tiers was undoubtedly quite complex, it added.

The deliberations during the conference and the views and experience shared by the participants would be useful not only for political parties, but to analysts, academicians and the general public as well, the statement said.
