Minister favours Uppara community under SC category

Mysore, May 14 (UNI) District in charge and Housing Minister D T Jayakumar today favoured the inclusion of Uppara community under SC category and a move was essential to bring them into the mainstream.

Inaugurating a day-long conference organised by various Uppara Associations of Mysore and Chamarajanagara districts here, he assured that the stae would initiate all the necessary steps to recommend the same to the Centre which would take the final decision in this regard.

The Uppara community has to brought under SC category as their social status was no better than dalits, in fact it was more pathetic, he added.

The community lags behind in the key fields like education, politics and economy. Unless the community members secure adequate political representation it was difficult to solve their problems.

In this regard, he called upon the community people to put up a united struggle, he said.
