JVM leaders urge Babulal Marandi to quit BJP
Jamshedpur, May 14 (UNI) Jharkhand's UPA convenor Stephen Marandi today urged BJP's national vice-president and former chief minister Babulal Marandi to quit the Arjun Munda government and help launch a third front in the state.
The former chief minister, however, vowed to go to any extent for the cause of the state and promised to consider the views of the Jharkhand Vikash Morcha (JVM), a non-political platform of several political parties here.
Addressing a JVM meeting, former deputy chief minister Stephen Marandi said time had come for Babulal Marandi to quit BJP and launch a full-fledged offensive against the Arjun Munda government.
Mr Marandi, an Independent MLA from Dumka, said he had taken the decision of forming the morcha along with Babulal Marandi after a long deliberations.''We'll not look back now'', he asserted.
In his reaction, the former chief minister reiterated to ''expose'' the Arjun Munda government on three issues of development, corruption and extremism.
Mr Marandi, one of the convenors of JVM, said the morcha would emerge as a third force in the political scenario of Jharkhand.
The former chief minister promised to consider the views of the morcha leaders and hinted that he might take a decision (quitting BJP) in Ranchi soon.
He said the development work has come to grinding halt which prompted him to raise voice against his own party from the JVM's platform.
Mr Marandi alleged those who were ruling the state were involved in corruption and that the government had not initiated any steps to wipe it out.
He also expressed concern over the problem of extremism and growth of criminal activities in urban areas. ''The urban areas are ruled by criminals while the rural Jharkhand is facing threat of Naxalites.'' he added.
The former deputy cheif minister said the three issues raised by the morcha were posing threat to the future of the state and urged the people to come out from their drawing rooms to take up cudgels to save Jharkhand.
The meeting ''Jharkhand Bachao Abhiyan'' was also addressed by former president of Jharkhand Samajwadi Party Banna Gupta, founder of AJSU Surya Singh Besra and a host of other leaders from different political parties.
