Junior Varanasi doctors to go on day long strike tomorrow

Varanasi, May 14 (UNI) The junior doctors at the Sir Sunder Lal Hospital (SSU) here this evening decided to observe a single day strike tomorrow over the reservation issue.

Talking to UNI after the meeting of doctors heading the anti-reservation movement in BHU, Resident Doctor's Association (RDA) president Mahesh Kante said that all junior doctors including the residents and MBBS students will stay away from duty at the hospital including the emergency services tomorrow.

The medicos alongwith other students of the varsity will carry out a 'massive' demonstration cum procession over the proposed OBC reservation in higher education. The protest will be in the form of a procession from the BHU gate to the Sankatmochan teple, Dr Kante added.

Dr Kante further threatened that the strike could become indefinite if the government failed to reverse its stand on the reservation issue.

Meanwhile, after the meeting attended by over 150 junior doctors and medical students, the agitating students carried out a procession on the varsity campus over the reservation issue.

The protestors raised slogans against HRD minister Arjun Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi.
