Srinagar, May 14 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police today appealed to the general public to come forward and register a complaint against rumour mongers and those circulating ''lists'' and ''posters'' of people allegedly involved in the sex scandal rocking the Valley for the past several days.

A senior police official told UNI that a person can lodge a complaint at any police station in the Kashmir valley.

''We will accordingly register an open FIR and launch a drive against the rumour mongers and the extortionists besides those circulating the lists of girls,'' he added.

The police official said strict action would be taken against the owners of the photostat shops who have been allegedly selling these ''lists''.

''We appeal to the people to come forward and help the police in this regard,'' he added.

For the past few days, miscreants have been blackmailing girls by publishing their names in the so called ''sex scandal lists and posters'' if they fail to pay the ransom.
