Jailed MP to move higher court for freedom

Purulia, May 14 (UNI) Jailed Lok Sabha member and Forward Bloc leader Bir Singh Mahato, who was convicted in a gang rape case by a local court, is likely to move Calcutta High court tomorrow for his release on bail.

Purulia's Fast Track Court on Friday sentenced the veteran politician to ten years rigorous imprisonment for the crime in 1983.

Since then Mr Mahato was lodged in Purulia town correctional home.
