Hurriyat to organise seminar on Kashmir issue

Srinagar, May 14 :The moderate Hurriyat Conference will organise a seminar titled ''Kashmir Issue and Dialogue Process'' here on May 18 to mark the death anniversaries of assassinated Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Ghani Lone.

The Hurriyat Conference, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has chalked out a programme to mark the 16th death anniversary of late Mirwaiz and fourth of late amalgam leader.

According to a Hurriyat spokesman, a recitation competition (Mehfil-e-Husne Qirat) would be held here on May 17 by Anjuman-e-Auqaf, Jamia Masjid followed by the seminar next day.

A blood donation camp and free medical aid camp will be organised at the historic Jamia Masjid here on May 19.

A Seerat conference would also be held at Islamia Higher Secondary School, Rajouri Kadal, on May 20, where a special issue of monthly Nusrat-ul Islam will be released.

Finally, a congregation would be held at Eidgah here on May 21 even as a general strike has been called by the moderate Hurriyat Conference on that day.

On May 21, 1990, unidentified gunmen shot dead Mirwaiz of Kashmir Moulvi Mohammad Farooq, the father of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, at his Nageen residence.

And on the same day in 2002, Peoples Conference chairman and senior Hurriyat leader Abdul Ghani Lone was assassinated at a rally to mark the 12th death anniversary of the former Mirwaiz at the Idgah ground in the old Srinagar city.
