Deshmukh orders police inquiry into police lathicharge

Mumbai, May 14 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has ordered an inquiry into yesterday's police lathicharge on medical students, who were protesting against increase in OBC reservation in medical colleges.

''Police commissioner A N Roy has been asked to conduct the inquiry and submit the report within a week to the government, the Chief Minister said, adding that appropriate action would be taken after receiving the inquiry report.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sideline of cricket tournaments prize distribution function at Kalachowki here today, Mr Deshmukh said, ''I saw the visuals of the incident in the media clippings and ordered an inquiry.'' More than 20 medical students suffered injuries in the police lathicharge.
