Various farmers' organisations stage road blockade

Jalandhar, May 12 (UNI) Members of various farmers' organisations today held demonstrations and blocked road traffic at various points to protest against land transfer deals in favour of Reliance Industries Limited and other big industrial houses.

An agitating farmers spokesman said that nine farmers outfits, including Jamhuri Kisan Sabha Punjab, Punjab Kisan Union, All India Kisan Sabha and Kisan Sangharsh Samiti organised ''Chakka Jam'' for two hours between 1200 and 1400 hours in Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Batala, Amritsar, Ajnala, Patiala, Ludhiana districts.

In Jalandhar district the roads were blocked at Nakodar, Phillaur and Bhogpur.

Besides the land allotment to big industrial houses, agitating farmers also protested against the Centre's decision of importing wheat, non implementation commitment of free canal water for irrigation and inadequate power supply.
