Tipaimukh Multi Purpose Hydro project found economically inviable
New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) The Tipaimukh Multi purpose Hydro electric projects in the North Eastern states of Mizoram and Manipur was found to be economically inviable by the Public Investment Board (PIB), Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
Mr Shinde said, however, as the project supports larger socio-eonomic considerations, it has been recommended by the PIB for investment approval, subject to compliance mainly on costs relating to flood moderation, diversion of National Highways and external security as agreed to be borne by the concerned administrative departments.
The issue of cost will be addressed in consultation with the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
The Ministry of Power may persude the State Governments of Mizoram and Manipur to reduce their share of free power from the project and the signing of the Power Producers Agreement (PPAs) for sale of power.
