MCD seals 132 shops on 35th day

New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) Even as the Lok Sabha passed a bill seeking to stop for one year the ongoing demolition and sealing drive against unauthorised construction in the capital, the MCD sealed 132 properties on the 35th day of the drive today.

Six units were sealed between 1700 hrs and 2000 hrs yesterday.

The MCD also desealed 40 properties today while 135 shops were desealed between 1700 hrs to 2000 hrs yesterday.

More than 10,500 shops in residential areas have been sealed since the operation began on March 29.

Sealing action has already been completed in the city area.

In Civil Lines, the authority sealed 50 properties and 36 units were sealed in the Western Zone.

Twenty-eight units were sealed in Shahdara (South), 12 in Karol Bagh and three each in Central Zone and Shahdara (North).

The Lok Sabha passed the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill, seeking to maintain status quo for a year from January 1, 2006 in the capital.

The government also promised to construct 100,000 dwelling units for slum dwellers in two years.
