Maoist threat VIPs, tight security

Hyderabad, May 12: Police has tightened security for Ministers and VIPs in view of intelligence reports suggesting the CPI (Maoist) were planning a major attack after the reverses suffered by them in the recent times.

Sources here said Ministers and MLAs were advised by the police not to move about without giving them prior information and proper security.

They said according to Intelligence Department reports Maoists movement was seen near the residences of some of the Ministers.

Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao had recently cancelled his tour in Srikakulam district on the advise of the police.

The Maoists lost heavily in the recent encounters in Kadapa and Mahabubnagar districts. About 15 insurgents, including some important leaders, had been killed by the security forces.

Police have strengthened security at the houses of those facing threat, the sources added.
