Governor for development of responsible media

Chandigarh, May 12 (UNI) Media should create hope and confidence in the minds of general public and guide them to handle the work with responsibility, Punjab Governor Gen (retd) S F Rodrigues today said.

Emphasising the need of development of a responsible media, he said the common men and women are handling their duties very well and their efforts need acknowledgement. The Governor was speaking after inaugurating a new building at the Punjab University Campus here.

Media pesonalities H K Dua and Shekhar Gupta were also present on the occassion. Mr Gupta said that the one year he spent in the department as a student was the best year of his life. Mr Dua also expressed his sense of pride of being a former student of the department.

The first and second floors of the building have been allocated to the Department of Mass Communication while a part of the ground floor has been allocated to the Rajiv Gandhi Chair for inter-disciplinary studies.

Prof K N Pathak, Vice-Chancellor, PU announced an additional 10 seats for the Mass Communication Department starting from the coming academic session.

The nomenclature of Master's Degree will be Master of Journalism instead of Master of Mass Communication as desired by the University Grant Commission (UGC), he added.
