Maternity leave to RT women: HC

Srinagar, May 12: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has ordered that rehbar-e-taleem (contractual) women teachers should be given maternity leave at par with their regular counterparts.

Justice Bashir Ahmed Kirmani, in a case of Tasneem Firdous versus State and others, said till the government formed appropriate alternate rules, the women rehbar-e-taleem teachers would be governed by provisions of the Civil Service (Leave Rules 1997) in so far as the maternity leave is concerned.

He directed the authorities concerned to immediately release to the petitioner the withheld remuneration and honorarium on account of 30 days of earned leave availed by her.

''The matter stands accordingly disposed off. Along with all connected CMP(s), copies of this order be communicated to all the Chief Education Officers besides the Director Education, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary Education and the Chief Secretary of the state and publicised for information of rehbar-e-taleem teachers,'' the order said.
