BESCOM seeks eight per cent hike in tariff
Bangalore, May 12 :The Bangalore Electric Supply Company (BESCOM) today sought an eight per cent average increase in tariff from the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission to meet a deficit of Rs 751 crore for the current fiscal.
BESCOM sources told UNI that increase in tariff amounting to about 40 paise per unit would fetch an additional income of Rs 390 crore with the balance deficit covered through subsidy from the State Government.
BESCOM had shown a Transmission and Distribution loss of 22 per cent for the region for the year.
KERC would call for objections on the proposals putforth by BESCOM and would give its order in about four months.
The overall loss of the five electric supply companies in Karnataka this year was expected to be around Rs 2500 crore. The Government subsidy was put at Rs 1800 crore.
