Activities at AIIMS not affected by resignations: Lakshmi

New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) As many as 20 AIIMS faculty members have either resigned or taken voluntary retirement during the last three years, the Rajya Sabha was told today.

Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Minister Panabaka Lakshmi, in a written reply, said the sanctioned strength of the faculty posts in AIIMS is 543 of which 479 members are presently in position.

She clarified that there is no exodus of faculty from AIIMS and the activities of the institute have not been affected due to the resignations.

''Such level of attrition is normally expected from any centre of excellence , in a competing values framework,'' she said.

About the spread of Japanese Encephalitis in Delhi, Ms Lakshmi said as per a report from the directorate of Health Services, only two suspect cases were reported from November, 2006 to March this year.

She said the Government is implementing comprehensive National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) in the entire country for prevention and control Malaria, Filaria, Kala-azar, Japanese Encephalitis and Dengu.

In the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken said 25 private hospitals, including VIMHANS and Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, were allotted land at cheaper rate in Delhi on the condition that they will provide free treatment to 25 per cent poor people.
