Sonia thanks Bareli voters

New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) Congress president Sonia Gandhi today thanked the voters of Rae Bareli who re-elected her to the Lok Sabha with a huge margin in the by-elections within two months after she resigned from the seat following the office-of-profit controversy.

"I will live up to the trust that the electorate of Rae Bareli had reposed in me again," Ms Sonia Gandhi told mediapersons at her 10 Janpath official residence even as her party workers were shouting pro-sonia slogans and beating drums outside the campus to celebrate her victory.

She said the Congress Party would form its government in Assam where elections were held along with West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

Ms Gandhi said the DPA alliance in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry had fared well in the elections there. "The results in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry are matters to be happy about." She, however, said the poll outcome in Kerala "disappointing," and in West Bengal not satisfactory.

In this context, Ms Gandhi said "in some you win...in some you lose. Victory and defeat are natural in politics," she added.
