Hyderabad, May 11 (UNI) National President of Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) Zameer Qadri today welcomed Union HRD minister Arjun Singh's proposal to introduce 27 per cent reservation for the OBCs in Central Universities and Central Government funded higher education institutions like IITs, IIMs, except minority institutions.

Mr Qadri in a statement here said that it is a step in the right direction to uplift socially and economically backward sections of our country.

He appreciated the initiative taken by Mr Arjun Singh as this proposal is a big relief to those, suffering from inequalities in Indian society for many years.

Expressing deep concern over high dropout rate in socially and economically backward communities, Mr Qadri called upon the Government to ensure quality education to all students, irrespective of their social and economical conditions.

He demanded that ''in case if the seats remained vacant in reserved category, admission should be allowed for general category students.'' ''To eradicate inequalities from Indian society implementation of reservation policy should be made more transparent and free from irregularities'' he said in a press release here.
