Sevilla thump Middlesbrough 4-0 to win UEFA Cup
EINDHOVEN, Netherlands, May 10 Sevilla thrashed Middlesbrough 4-0 in the UEFA Cup final today to win their first European trophy in style.
Luis Fabiano's 26th-minute header gave the Spaniards a deserved 1-0 halftime lead as they made all the running in the opening period.
Goalkeeper Andres Palop kept them ahead with a great block from a Mark Viduka volley in the 52nd minute as Middlesbrough, also appearing in their first European final, looked more adventurous after the break.
However, two goals by Italian midfielder Enzo Maresca in the 78th and 84th minutes took the game Sevilla's way and Freddie Kanoute rounded off an emphatic win at the death.
