Lucknow, May 11 (UNI) Samajwadi Party -- whose candidate lost to AICC president Sonia Gandhi in the Rae Bareli parliamentary bypoll -- today alleged the Election Commission (EC) was working under the pressure of Congress.
SP Uttar Pradesh unit president Ram Sharan Das said here the EC directive for lodging a case against senior party leader and state PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav was ''against democracy.'' Addressing a news conference, Mr Das maintained that the EC was not rpt not functioning impartially.
''Mr Yadav was talking about the development of Rae Bareli in his election meetings. He had only listed the achievements of the UP government, which does not violate any law,'' Mr Das claimed.
''EC is an independent constitutional body and it should discharge its obligations in an impartial manner.'' On the loding of case against Mr Yadav, the SP leader informed that the party high command would soon decide upon the matter.
Mr Das, however, appealed to the EC to re-consider its directive against the UP minister.
