'Mujhe meri biwi se bachao!'

Sehore, MP, May 11: Even hardened cops express sympathy for hapless husbands who gather at this district's family counselling centre after being frightened of their wives and the refrain is ''Mujhe meri biwi se bachao.'' ''More men frequent this place than women.

The centre was set up in 2000 and of the 607 applications received, 355 were from men. In most cases, the wives leave for their parents' place and the husbands are threatened. In some cases, the women's parents and brothers also issue threats,'' centre Chairman Rajkumar Gupta told UNI.

Complaints are commonly received about newly-wed women lodging trumped-up harassment charges.

''Several husbands' complaints are genuine but we can only provide legal counselling. Two of them even committed suicide,'' Mr Gupta added.
