Father defeated, son elected in Assembly poll
Thiruvananthapuram, May 11 (UNI) The Assembly elections in Kerala, results of which were announced today, witnessed the defeat of a father while his son managed to survive the LDF sweep.
As former minister and Kerala Congress (B) leader R Balakrishna Pillai was defeated by CPI(M) novice Ayisha Potti on his home turf of Kottarakkara with a margin of 12,087 votes, but his son K B Ganesh Kumar, also a former Minister, was re-elected from Pathanapuram with a margin of 11,814 votes over his CPI rival K R Chandramohan.
Mr Pillai had been elected to the Assembly for eight times in the past.
Interestingly, Mr Ganesh Kumar's election was the only victory for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) from Kollam district, having 12 seats.
