Elated Left supporters paint city red
Kolkata, May 11 (UNI) Overjoyed CPI(M) supporters painted the city red and scenes of revelry and celebrations dotted the streets following the Left's spectacular victory in the just-concluded assembly polls.
The city was clothed in red banners and flags as Left loyalists thronged street corners and broke into impromptu jigs.
Bapi Malakar, a CPM worker from Sports Minister Subhash Chakraborty's constituency, said the results had vindicated his leader's stand against the Election Commission.'' See polls have always been fair...we are feeling happy as our contention has been proved right.'' Ruling party workers took out celebratory processions and raised victory slogans. ''CPI(M) chilo, achey, thakbe (CPM was, is and will always be in West Bengal),'' they chorused.
Euphoria was palpable in the atmosphere. ''The only way to turn is left,'' a CPM loyalist quipped, tongue-in-cheek.
