Early trends show Left Front leading

Kolkata, May 11 (UNI) Early electoral trends in West Bengal indicate a lead for the ruling Left Front as counting for the assembly polls in the state began here this morning.

As the trends started coming in from across the state the Left Front has taken a distinct lead in 29 of the 293 constituencies.

These include the seats of heavyweight candidates like Industry Minister Nirupam Sen and Forest Minister Jogesh Burman.

The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC)-BJP combine is at the second position, with leads in six seats. The Indian National Congress (INC) is leading in four seats, while the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) is leading in one seat from its base in Darjeeling.

All the results are expected by afternoon.
