Counting begins in Pondicherry
Pondicherry, May 11 : Counting of votes polled in the two-phase Assembly elections held on May three and eight began here this morning at 0800 hrs amid tight security.
The entire area covering the Government Bharathidasan Women's College where the counting will take place in the Pondicherry region has been cordoned off by the police and traffic diverted. Heavy police pickets have been posted in the area.
Counting will also take place at Kaaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions of the territory.
The first results are expected within half-an-hour of the commencement of counting and the process is expected to be over by noon due to the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Three former Chief Ministers and Founder-President of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress P Kannan are among the 218 candidates who contested the elections held in two phases in the union territory.
