Cong to ponder over Karaikal debacle

Pondicherry, May 11 (UNI) After suffering a debacle in its Karaikal bastion, the Congress ranks will now join their heads to ponder over the reasons for its defeat.

Karaikal, considered a party bastion in the Union Territory, had totally rejected the party in the Assembly elections.

Even Industries Minister M Chandragasu could not get re-elected from his Nedumgadu constituency. The people of the region also showed the way out to Deputy Speaker A V Subramanian.

Political observers feel the debacale could be construed as a result of the impact the Karaikal Struggle Group's appeal to reject the sitting members for their failure to render good to the region.

The struggle group, alleging neglect of the region by the Congress Government, is demanding seperate union territory status for the region.
