BJP's Divya Singh wins from Deeg

Bharatpur, May 11 (UNI) BJP candidate Diyva Singh was today declared elected in the byelections to the Deeg assembly constituency, defeating her nearest rival by 6,721 votes.

According to the state election department, Divya Singh polled 33,332 votes while her nearest rival Laxman Singh (Congress) polled 26,611 votes.

Laxman Singh was leading till the second round by 2,000 votes but lost ground to his BJP rival in the later stages.

The Deeg bypoll was neccessitated by the death of sitting member Arun Singh (Indian National Lok Dal).

Out of the 1,21,793 lakh voters in the constituency, only 61,689 people managed to cast their votes on May 8.

Returning Officer Babulal Goyal handed over the certificate to winner Divya Singh, who is from the Bharatpur royal family.
