Strike hits normal life in Thiruvananthapuram district
Thiruvananthapuram, May 10: Normal life was affected by the dawn-to-dusk strike called by the RSS and the Hindu Aikyavei in the district today in protest against the murder of an RSS leader.
Though the hartal was said to be by and large peaceful, a few isolated incidents of stone throwing were reported in many parts of the city, which left two people, including a child, injured.
Shops and business establishments remained closed while attendance in government offices and the Secretariat was thin, officials said.
Though private buses, taxis and autorikshaws kept off the roads, private cars and two-wheelers plied in some parts of the city and rural areas.
Large queues were seen in the railway station, as the state transport corporation cancelled its service to outstation following stone-throwing at its buses.
Six vehicles, including a KSRTC bus, were damaged in the stone throwing, police said.
The hartal was called in protest against the murder of RSS district Seva Pramukh N Sunilkumar yesterday at Kilimanoor.
