Rupee closes unchanged at 44.93/94/USD as dollar

Mumbai, May 10 (UNI) Rupee closed unchanged at 44.93/94 per US dollar, as compared to the last close of 44.93/94, said a dealer in the forex market.

Earlier this morning the rupee opened stronger by six paise at 44.87/89 per US dollar as compared to the last close of 44.93/94, added the dealer.

However, the rupee weakened in the mid-morning session trading at 44.91/92 per dollar.

The stock markets' benchmark index BSE Sensex crossed 12,600 mark and closed with a gain of 98 plus at 12,612 which provided good support to the rupee.

Rupee was getting strong support from the foreign fund inflow of more than 100 million US dollar in the stock markets yesterday.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) fixed the reference rate at 44.93 per US dollar which was three paise higher to yesterday's level.

The six-month forward premia ended higher at 1.06 per cent, from the previous close of 1.02 per cent.

The one-year forward premia ended flat at 1.11 per cent, from the previous close of 1.11 per cent.

The cross-currency closing rate for rupee against euro was 57.39(57.02), which was 37 paise up; for pound sterling it was 83.59(83.42), 17 paise up and for the Japanese yen it was 40.62 (40.28), 34 paise higher from the previous close.
