Record 70.58 p c votes cast in TN assembly polls
Chennai, May 10 (UNI) A record 70.58 per cent of votes have been cast in the May eight single-phase election to all the 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu.
State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Naresh Gupta announced the final figure at a press conference here this evening.
The CEO's office had yesterday put the percentage at 70.22.
The voters percentage in Chennai, which was earlier announced as 58.28, was finally put at 64.34 per cent.
Monday's polling percentage marked more than 11 per cent increase from the 59.05 per cent recorded during the 2001 Assembly election.
While male voters constituted 50.94 per cent, women accounted for 49.06 per cent.
