Railways' revenue shows upward trend

New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) Maintaining its buoyancy, the Railways earned Rs. 4875.46 crore in April as compared to Rs. 4339.33 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.36 per cent.

The total goods earnings of Rs. 3259.07 crore also showed an increase of 14.35 per cent during April over Rs. 2850.16 crore for the same period last year.

The total passenger revenue earnings during this period were Rs.1454.56 crore as compared to 1356.01 crore during the same period last year, marking an increase of 7.27 per cent.

The Railways also witnessed an increase of 28.20 per cent in its revenue from other coaching during this period with earnings of Rs.

130.61 crore as compared to Rs. 101.88 crore during the same period last year.

The total number of passengers booked during April were 508.40 million as compared to 471.27 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 7.88 per cent.

In the suburban section, the total number of passengers booked during the period were 279.13 million, and in non-suburban, it was 229.27 million, registering an increase of 5.26 per cent and 11.25 per cent as compared to 265.18 million and 206.09 million respectively during the same period last year.
