Pune, May 10 (UNI) Police today arrested nine people, including a Sabhapati of Panchayat Samiti, on charges of gangraping two women.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Vishwas Nagre-Patil told reporters that the incident came to light after the two women, aged 21 and 35 years, who had cleared the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination and BEd teachers respectively approached Snehalaya, a women's organisation, with their complaint. The matter was later taken up with the rural police who laid a trap and nabbed the accused.

Police said the women, in the complaint, stated that they were called for a meeting in Pune about providing jobs in MPSC and in a zilla parishad school, where they were offered soft drinks laced with sedatives. Later, in a semi-concious state, the two were allegedly gangraped and the whole incident was filmed.

After that, the accused allegedly gangraped them several times in the last four months by blackmailing them, police informed.

Frustrated with the happenings, the duo approached the women's cell, which led to the arrest of two clerks--one from the revenue department and the other from Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB).

Their imprisonment led to further arrests. The investigations to ascertain the involvement of some local political leaders as well were on, police added.
