Kodavas' minority status bid may be considered

Madikeri, May 10: Heeding the demand by Codava National Council (CNC) for minority status to Kodavas, the National Commission for Tribes has sent one of its members to look into the demand.

Commission member Buduru Srinivasulu arrived here yesterday and met CNC Secretary General N U Nachappa and other members.

Mr Nachappa submitted a memorandum to Mr Srinivasulu, highlighting the demand of the Kodavas.

Addressing the members, Mr Srinivasulu said he had come here on an official visit to verify the facts and eligibility of Kodavas to be termed as tribes.

He said the Commission would verify their demand after he submitted his report.

Mr Srinivasulu visited the tribal areas in the district today.
