Hailstorm, rainfall give respite from heat wave

Written by: Staff

Lucknow, May 10 (UNI) Brief spell of hailstorm and rainfall early morning in the Uttar Pradesh capital and neighbouring places gave some respite to people from the heat wave prevailing for the past several days.

However, the humidity levels soared once the day progressed with bright sunshine taking over from cloudy skies.

Agricultural experts have termed hailstorm as harmful for mango and other standing crops.

Meanwhile, Jhansi recorded the maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius, which was one degree above normal.

Three heatwave related deaths -- one at Hardoi and two at Mahoba districts -- were reported in the last 24 hrs in UP taking the toll at 30 so far.

The mercury was recorded at below normal in Faizabad, Allahabad, Varanasi and Gorakhpur divisions.

In the next 24 hrs, the met office has forecast storms at sporadic places in the state.
